Have you ever wanted to knit a sweater? This honey sweater is the perfect way to give knitting a try!

When I set out to design a knit sweater this year I knew I wanted something that offered lots of texture but wasn’t too hard for even a beginner to make.

CHECK OUT MORE SWEATER PATTERNS BELOW:

  • the Amethyst Sweater
  • The Simple Sweater (crochet)

I have created an in-depth, comprehensive video for you to watch, learn and follow along so you too can have success in making the Honey Sweater!

The stitched used is the faux honeycomb stitch. It uses a mixture of slipped stitches (Don’t let that scare you! I’ll teach you how to do it!) and knit stitches worked under loose stitches.

PATTERN NOTES:

This piece is made in 4 identical panels and is worked from the bottom up. A few details to help you determine what size to make:

– The style of this sweater is a semi-crop style

– Features a dropped sleeve

– The sleeve length is appr. a 3/4 length sleeve

Sizes are written in the pattern like this: XS( S, M, L, XL, 2X, 3X, 4X)

SIZING:

The width of this sweater is based on the traditional bust, back waist length and arm length found on the CraftYarnCouncil sizing chart found here.

If you want a more fitted look, stick with your normal size. If you want a bit more of a slouchy look, I recommend going up one size.

SPECIALTY STITCHES:

As you get into the pattern you might see some acronyms you don’t understand. For example, SL 3 WYIF stands for: slip 3 stitches with yarn in front ***refer to video for more visual guidance***

Another acronym you will see is K1 ULS, this stands for, Knit 1 stitch under the loose strand. Again, please refer to the full video tutorial above for more help.

SEAMING:

Begin with the shoulders. Place stitch markers to mark off the headspace area. (leave about 10″ – 12″ gap.)

Using the mattress stitch ***see video*** seam the shoulders closed. Next, fold your sleeve in half and lay it centered on the shoulder seam. You will then use the mattress stitch to seam on the sleeves.

Take the “open” sweater and fold it closed. You will seam from the cuff down to the waist. Weave in your ends and you’re done!
