How To Have Success With These 3 Crochet Kitchen Rags:

- if you tend to crochet tighter, be sure to go up a hook size. Cotton yarns tend to be stiff so if you don’t want to have hand cramps or experience any sort of struggle while making each rag, definitely go up in your hook size.
- if your rag seems to not lay like a perfect square, consider blocking it. This will give you a nice, crisp looking square
Pattern Notes:
LEVEL: Beginning – Intermediate
HOOK: 5MM & 5.5MM
YARN: 1 ball Cotton yarn per rag (sugar&cream) CHECK OUT THESE GREAT OPTIONS!
Abbreviations in US Terms:
- SC – single crochet
- HDC – half double crochet
- SCB – single crochet below
- SLT – slip stitch
- CH – chain
- BST – bobble stitch
***HOW TO MAKE THE BOBBLE STITCH***
YO, insert your hook into the correct stitch. YO, draw up a loop. YO pull through 2 loops. YO, insert your hook into the same stitch. YO pull through 2 loops. YO, insert your hook into the same stitch. YO pull through 2 loops. YO pull through all remaining loops on your hook. CH 1.

PATTERNS FOR 3 CROCHET KITCHEN RAGS
RAG 1 -Handy Dandy Rag/Potholder
(this particular rag when made with 100% cotton is thick enough to function as a potholder as well.)
Using your 5.5MM hook, you will begin by chaining 30
R1 – In the second CH from the hook, place a SC. SC in each stitch all the way across. CH 1. Turn.
R2 – (CH 2 counts as SC) SC in the stitch below. ***look for the ‘V’ below the space where you would normally put your SC*** Continue with SCs below all the way across. CH 1. Turn.
R3 – R35: repeat row 2. DO NOT TIE OFF on the last row.
EDGING (optional):
CH 1 where you stopped on row 35 of the pattern. Place 2 SC in the same space. Continue all the way around the square making sure to include 3 SC together in each of the corners to help give you a nice, rounded edge.
As you make your way back to where you started with the CH 1, you will put a SC into the same space where you placed the first 2 SCs together. Then, CH 8 and slip stitch to the top of the SC. This is your loop for hanging.
***please note, if you’re not interested in making the loop all you need to do is place the final SC into the beginning space of the 2 SCs together and then slip stitch to the next SC***
RAG 2 – Clean Those Crunchies Rag
Using your 5.5MM hook, you will begin by chaining 30
R1 – In the second CH from the hook, place a SL ST. *HDC into the next stitch. SL ST into the next stitch. * Repeat from * to * all the way across. End with a SL ST in the last stitch. CH 2. Turn.
R2 – (CH 2 counts as HDC) SL ST into the next st. *HDC into the next stitch. SL ST into the next stitch. * Repeat from * to * all the way across. End with a HDC in the last stitch. CH 1. Turn.
R3 – (CH 1 counts as a SL ST) *HDC into the next stitch. SL ST into the next stitch. * Repeat from * to * all the way across. End with a SL ST in the last stitch. CH 2. Turn.
R4- R 35: Repeat rows 2&3. DO NOT TIE OFF on the last row.
EDGING (optional):
CH 1 where you stopped on row 35 of the pattern. Place 2 SC in the same space. Continue all the way around the square making sure to include 3 SC together in each of the corners to help give you a nice, rounded edge.

R1 – In the second CH from the hook, place a SC. Continue all the way across with SCs. CH 1. Turn.
(wrong side) R2 – (CH 1 counts as SC) Place a SC in the 3rd stitch. Continue placing a SC in the 3rd stitch all the way across. Place a SC in the last stitch. CH 1. Turn.
(right side) R3 – (CH 1 counts as a SC) Place a SC into the next stitch. Continue all the way across with SCs. CH 1. Turn.
R4 – 35: repeat rows 2 & 3. DO NOT TIE OFF on the last row.
EDGING (optional):
CH 1 where you stopped on row 35 of the pattern. Place 2 SC in the same space. Continue all the way around the square making sure to include 3 SC together in each of the corners to help give you a nice, rounded edge.

These cloths/dishcloths are very nice, take time to make, and cost money for yarn! They are NOT rags! I have rags made from old clothing or towels that I use for those types of jobs…I do not use my dishcloths as rags! Calling them “rags” totally disrespects the effort put into making them…
